Saving Hearts

Our family tries to eat a heart healthy, low cholesterol diet, that includes lots of oatmeal and fresh produce. But, sometimes the produce begins to wilt before we can eat it all, so we'll toss it in the blender and whip it into green smoothies (click here for recipe). If we can't finish drinking the smoothie that day, then we'll freeze whatever is left over.

A pliable, rubber ice cube mold works best.

Once the blocks have frozen solid,
place them in a plastic bag to store in the freezer.
Instead of just tossing out wilted vegetables, or dumping leftover, green smoothies down the drain, now you'll have veggie vitamins you can use anytime!

Just place on top of your oatmeal, pour boiling water over it, then mix it in. Drizzle with honey to sweeten. If that tastes too "healthy," you can always add a spoonful of hot cocoa mix to cover up the mild, green smoothie flavor!
Many resolve to kick off the new year with a new healthy habit, only to, unfortunately, slip back into the old habit sometime around mid-February. But, really anytime is a good time for making healthy changes.

Bon Appetit!
