Forcing Pear Blossoms

There's nothing quite like "forcing flowers" to make it feel like Spring is finally here!

To force blossoms, snip some heavily budded branches and place them in warm water. Set the arrangement in a bright room, but out of direct sunlight. The warmth inside your home enables the buds to open up early.

Good contestants for forcing are: forsythia, spirea, wisteria, lilac, pussy willow, witch hazel, mock orange, hawthorn, and any fruit trees such as apple, plum, or cherry. (Almost anything that hasn't flowered yet will work.)

It's fun to get up for breakfast and check how the pear blossoms have opened up a little bit more each morning!
